SEREMBAN: The Customs Department has foiled an attempt to smuggle out some 305kg of methamphetamine worth almost RM11mil at the Tanjung Pelepas Port in Johor.

Customs director-general Datuk Seri Abdul Latif Abdul Kadir said two suspects were arrested in the operation carried out on Nov 17.

"A Customs team conducted checks on a container at the Inspection Bay at Wisma Kastam around 9.35am on the said day and found 278 white sacks in it.

"Inside the sacks, we found the drugs packed in 300 transparent plastic bags," he said in a statement.

Abdul Latif said a syndicate, which had attempted to smuggle out the drugs, had tried to hoodwink the authorities by declaring the consignment as "chopped e-glass fibreglass".

Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate used a fake company name to export the consignment.

"The name of the sender was also fake.

"Investigations showed that the container had arrived at the Tanjung Pelepas Port from West Port in Klang on Oct 25," he said.

He said Customs were looking for more suspects to assist in investigations.

The case is being probed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
