KAMAKURA, Kanagawa -- A teacher at a municipal junior high school in this east Japan city leaked the answers to a third-year English exam to her students in advance via social media, the Fujisawa City Board of Education announced on Nov. 15.

According to the city's board of education, the teacher in her 40s leaked half of the questions and answers to the English test held on Nov. 5 to three students in advance via Instagram and had these three students spread the information to several others. She also informed some students in advance of the questions for a listening test conducted on Nov. 8.

The teacher started working at Shonandai Junior High School in 2019 in a temporary role. In response to an inquiry by the city's board of education, she reportedly said, "I had been teaching these students since they were in the first year, and I was often consulted by them. I wanted them to get as good a score as possible."

In principle, the city's board of education prohibits teachers and students from communicating with each other on social networking services, and the female teacher violated this rule as well.

The Kanagawa Prefectural Board of Education is considering what punishment to implement over the incident.
