PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Saraya Arbi (pic) is the new secretary-general of the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry.
In a statement, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said Saraya's appointment was effective yesterday.
Prior to the new appointment, Saraya, 59, was the ministry’s deputy secretary-general, reported Bernama.
Mohd Zuki said Saraya's appointment was based on her qualifications, leadership qualities, and vast experience while holding several positions in various fields.
She has served in human resources, as well as policy and strategic planning, especially in the Public Service Department and the ministry.
"I believe that with her experience, knowledge and credibility, Saraya is able to lead Malaysia's tourism and cultural sector as one of the main contributors to the country's economy,” he added.
Saraya, who holds a master's degree in public administration from New York University, has been in the civil service for 33 years, starting as an administrative and diplomatic officer on Aug 1, 1989.
