       A FARMER in Sepang was surprised by the birth of a two-headed calf at his farm, Makkal Osai reported.

       The farmer, identified as Sivaselvam, said his family had been farming in Sungai Pelek for 50 years, starting with his father.

       He has been working on the farm for over 30 years but has never seen anything like this.

       The calf was delivered by one of his 30 cows on Monday but died within a few minutes.

       The calf was delivered prematurely within nine months whereas the normal gestation period is usually more than 10 months.

       > The daily also reported that former Tamil Nadu chief minister O. Pannirselvam was arrested along with dozens of opposition lawmakers following a protest.

       It was sparked by a bill to merge the Dr J. Jayalalithaa University and other colleges with the Annamalai University.

       Opposition lawmakers walked out and began a sit-down demonstration on the road in front of the assembly hall, which blocked traffic and caused congestion.

       They were detained and removed by the police, but later released.

       The bill was then passed by the house with no further incident.
