Nigel Farage has blasted the BBC and other members of the “mainstream media” amid a debate about whether left-wing hatred of Donald Trump prompted the assassination attempt last week.
Speaking to Laura Kuenssberg, Mr Farage hit out at the “mainstream media narrative” against Donald Trump, and himself, accusing liberals that oppose him of being so "nasty" and "unpleasant" that they "encourage this type of behaviour".

The Reform UK leader highlighted two comments in particular from individuals connected to the BBC, accusing the UK broadcaster of also playing a role in the toxic political environment.
He blasted: "The BBC is a part of this, it's happening in this country.
"I've faced continual attacks for over a decade. Now because it's me, no one cares. In fact, it's even funny".

READ MORE: BBC presenter sparks fury after calling for Donald Trump to be 'murdered'
Mr Farage slammed BBC presenter David Aaronovitch (Image: BBC / David Aaronovitch)
"One of the many times that I had a drink thrown at me, a so-called comedian on a BBC show said, 'Well, why not battery acid’.
"I just find the fact that that individual, Jo Brand, is still on BBC programmes, I find that really pretty appalling.
"We've got Mr Aaronovitch who does programmes on Radio 4, who recently said that the best way for a Democrat to deal with Trump is to have him shot. He says now that that was a joke.
"But I do think mainstream media, I do think liberal intolerance, is increasingly a part of this problem."
A fortnight ago, The Daily Express was the first to highlight comments by Mr Aaronovitch, who tweeted: “If I was Biden I'd hurry up and have Trump murdered on the basis that he is a threat to America's security #SCOTUS”.

The post from Mr Aaronovitch sparked instant backlash from those who saw it, with many pointing out an egregious breach of the corporation’s rules around employee impartiality.
Responding to journalist Jack Montgomery who accused him of “Trump derangement syndrome”, Mr Aaronovitch doubled down and lashed out, replying: “Did you see the Supreme Court ruling Jack? Or were you too busy with your head up Nigel Farage's derriere?”
Mr Aaronovitch deleted the post after around 90 minutes, claiming it had been satirical.
He tweeted: “There is now a far right pile-on suggesting that my tweet about the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity is an incitement to violence when it’s plainly a satire”.
“So I’m deleting it. If nothing else though it’s given me a map of some of the daftest people on this site.

The BBC was approached for comment, though failed to provide a response about whether Mr Aaronovitch’s tweet had breached social media impartiality rules.
Mr Farage said he had had a “pretty sleepless night worrying about my friend” following the shooting.

He revealed he will now fly to Milwaukee for next week’s Republican Convention.
He explained: “I do so to support my friend, Donald Trump, as we head into the later stages of an era-defining election. He is the favourite to win – and after today’s heinous acts he will win – and I am determined to do all I can to ensure the UK’s special relationship with the US is as strong as it can be”.
“But I do so for something bigger. To stand shoulder to shoulder with President Trump and the US to stand up for democracy. To say, loud and clear, that we can disagree vehemently, that we can debate, that we can thrash out of views, but that resorting to violence is entirely unacceptable, regardless of your views.”
