PETALING JAYA: The last severely injured victim of the LRT train mishap last month has now been discharged from hospital, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
The Transport Minister said the 31-year-old woman was allowed to return home from Hospital Kuala Lumpur on Monday (June 21) night.
“She is the last patient whom Hospital Kuala Lumpur allowed to return home, and she will continue her rehabilitation, check-ups and follow-ups that have been arranged by the medical specialists in the hospital,” he said.
Over the past two days, he had called up the families of the four passengers who were severely injured in the train collision that took place on May 24.
He said that last Thursday, a 52-year-old man, who was also severely injured in the incident, was allowed to return home and is also receiving rehabilitative treatment.
“Both victims suffered severe head injuries and they were saved by the medical and surgical staff at Hospital Kuala Lumpur,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (June 22).
Dr Wee added that he had also spoken to the family members of the 26-year-old woman, who is currently recuperating in her home in Parit Buntar, Perak.
Another female patient, he added, who had been transferred from Hospital Kuala Lumpur to a private medical facility in Damansara for jaw surgery, is also recovering at home and is undergoing physiotherapy.
“May all the patients make a full recovery as soon as possible,” he said.
Dr Wee, however, wanted to highlight the contributions by the medical staff at Hospital Kuala Lumpur who had worked tirelessly to treat the patients.
He said the family members of the two victims who suffered head injuries expressed their immeasurable appreciation to Dr Azmi Alias, the Neurosurgery head of department in the hospital, and his team.
“I, too, wish to express a thousand thanks to the ‘unsung heroes’ from Hospital Kuala Lumpur led by Dr Azmi for saving and treating the wounded victims.
“No words or speech can I say except ‘thank you’. Only God can repay your good deed,” he said.
