‘Electorate fed up with Pakatan’s flaws and mistakes’

KLANG: Pakatan Harapan’s resounding defeat in the recent Melaka election indicated that the electorate was fed up with Pakatan’s apparent flaws and the mistakes it was making, says DAP Bandar Utama assemblyperson Jamaliah Jamaluddin.

“Based on the freedom of choice in choosing leaders and elected representatives, it would not be wrong for me to say that this was the people’s response to our every move and decisions we made,’’ said Jamaliah.

She pointed out that the recent outcome in Melaka was akin to the punishment Barisan Nasional had received in the last general election.

“This has to be stopped,’’ said Jamaliah, who was one of the 15 people who scored the highest votes in the recently concluded Selanger DAP party elections.

However, said Jamaliah, the factors behind the defeat must not be a catalyst for Pakatan’s component parties to “stab” and blame each other.

She added that they (factors) should instead be a lesson used to repair and overcome past and present flaws to prevent the situation from worsening in the future.

She said Pakatan has faced many by-elections which had ended in defeat for the coalition and that fact was indeed bitter to swallow.

“But this is the reality we have to accept and overcome so that we can be repaired.

“Internal flaws within coalition parties have to be overcome immediately so that we can rise and return with similar strength.

“We have to be united and inculcate the fighting spirit for the sake of a better Malaysia.

“We have to move forward and become stronger,’’ added Jamaliah.

The Melaka election saw DAP losing four of the eight seats it had contested and PKR not winning any seats at all.

The outcome had solicited varied responses, including certain individuals pointing their fingers at PKR president and Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and calling for his resignation.
