IPOH: More mobile trucks selling cheaper groceries will be available in Perak, says Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad (pic).
He said the State received requests from the public for more such trucks following the announcement of the end of several ceiling price schemes including chicken on July 1.
"The state will continue to assist the public using the same method we have implemented before, which is mobile trucks selling groceries at 5% and 10% cheaper.
"We have received requests (made) to the Yayasan Bina Upaya (YBU) which implemented the programme to widen the locations and increase the trucks’ visits," he told reporters at Laman Sri Ridzuan here on Wednesday (June 22).
Saarani said presently, there were only two trucks which travel to several areas in the state once a month.
"Chickens are sold at RM10 (whole) and those purchasing goods of more than RM25, can purchase chickens at RM4 per kg at the trucks.
"We will discuss the matter with YBU as this initiative will benefit the rakyat as they could get groceries cheaper.
"Among the suggestions are to add more trucks and locations as well as to add the number of visits to at least twice a month," he said.
The maximum price scheme for chicken and eggs was implemented on Feb 5 and had been scheduled to end on June 5. The government however extended it to June 30.
Under the scheme, the ceiling price for standard chicken was set at RM8.90 per kg in Peninsular Malaysia.
