SIBU: A 22-year-old man has been charged in court here with trespassing, outraging the modesty of a woman, and causing injury.
No plea was recorded on Wednesday (June 8) from Daniel Sugai of Rumah Sugai, Sungai Song, who faces charges under Section 411, 354 and 326 of the Penal Code.
Subordinate Court Sibu assistant registrar Romme Ahmad Zaidi released him on bail of RM3,000 with two local sureties each for the first two charges and RM5,000 bail with two sureties for the third charge.
He also ordered the accused to be present for further mention for the first two charges on June 21 at the Kapit Magistrate's Court and June 27 at the Sessions Court there.
In the first charge under Section 442 of the Penal Code, Daniel was accused of trespassing into the quarters of a 31-year-old woman at SK Nanga Selibut, Song, at about 2.15pm on May 27.
The Section provides for a jail term of up to three years or a fine of up to RM5,000, or both if convicted.
On the second charge, he was accused of outraging the modesty of the woman at the same time and place.
He faces a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine as well as whipping if found guilty.
The court was also told that the accused voluntarily caused hurt to the woman by using a knife and she suffered severe pain at the same place and time.
The offence under Section 326 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment term of up to 20 years, a fine or whipping upon conviction.
