LOGAN Mwangi's mum insisted "I'm not a monster" in a letter from prison after she was accused of murdering the five-year-old.

The youngster was found with horrific injuries after being dumped in the Ogmore River near his home in Bridgend like "fly-tipped" rubbish.

His mum Angharad Williamson and stepdad John Cole are accused of murder

His mum Angharad Williamson, 30, stepdad John Cole, 40, and a 14-year-old boy are accused of murder and perverting the course of justice.

Cardiff Crown Court heard Williamson wrote a letter to her family from jail on August 19 vowing to prove her innocence.

It said: "A lot has happened in the last week or so, I have lost my son and my ex partner admitted to hurting [Logan] and moving his body. I can’t tell you more than that.

“The reason I am in prison is to investigate if I was involved in moving (Logan’s) body and because of the death threats it’s thought I am safer in here.

“I hope you know I had nothing to do with (Logan’s) death, the only thing I am guilty of is allowing (Cole) into our lives…

“My world is falling apart around me and none of my family have picked up the phone to speak to me.

“I am not the monster they say I am in the media. (Cole) hurt (Logan) and tried to cover it up.”

The court was told Cole and the 14-year-old boy were caught on CCTV leaving the house in the early hours of the morning on July 31 last year.

Jurors heard the stepdad has since admitted he was carrying Logan's dead body in his arms during the chilling footage.

Williamson added: "I love you all so much, I feel alone and scared…. I love you all so much but if this is goodbye I understand. I will prove my innocence at the trial.”

The court also heard from Cole's police interview, where he admitted he and Williamson had hit Logan before.

He branded the youngster "clumsy" and said he "slipped and landed in the bath" on the day he died.

Cole then claimed he woke to Williamson screaming "he's dead, Logan's dead" - with the mum saying she head him "take his last breath".

'I WANT TO KILL ALL THE KIDS'

He explained how he carried the child to river and "put him on the bank in the dark" before chucking his dinosaur top in the woods as it had "ripped".

Cole added: "I literally woke up to him dead, and it didn't make sense.

"I love Logan - I didn't murder him, I tried to save him."

Jurors also heard from a support worker for the teen defendant today, who claimed he said: "Where are the kids? I want to kill all the kids".

Another support worker heard him singing about punching children in the head and describing it as "orgasmic" after Logan's death.

Logan was pulled from the river with 56 external injuries to his head, face, torso arms and legs from a blunt force trauma.

Tragically, he is believed to have survived for several hours after the assault, meaning he may have been saved, it was said.

Home office pathologist Dr John Williams found he was covered in bruises including on his scalp and tongue.

The court was told he had received "catastrophic" injuries to his abdomen including a tear measuring 5.5cm by 3cm on his liver and a second rip on his bowel.

Jurors heard there was also evidence Logan's collar bone had been broken in the weeks before his death - suggesting he may have been abused "over a prolonged period of time".

Logan is believed to have been murdered at home before an "elaborate charade" was hatched to cover up his death.

All three defendants, who deny murder, allegedly "prioritised their own self preservation over all else".
