PETALING JAYA: Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) in Klang will receive 60 more beds and additional equipment estimated to cost RM1.1mil to increase its capacity.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said on Thursday (July 8) that a field hospital with a capacity of 50 beds would also be set up through the cooperation of the Armed Forces and HTAR.

It was reported that HTAR was overwhelmed by the number of Covid-19 patients, with many having to park outside its emergency department in the past few days.

Dr Adham added that the Health Ministry was increasing bed capacity at intensive care units (ICU) of its hospitals and training staff on how to deal with the worsening Covid-19 situation here.

He said 20 ICU beds had been added at Hospital Ampang while another eight ICU and 45 regular beds were added at Hospital Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) on Wednesday (July 7).

These measures were to enable stage four and five patients from the Covid-19 Integrated Quarantine and Treatment Centre 2.0 to receive treatment.

Dr Adham said Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan in Wangsa Maju would start accepting stage three and four Covid-19 patients, while more than 110 healthcare workers would be redeployed from Kedah, Perak and Terengganu to the MAEPS quarantine centre.

An additional 1,550 oxygen cylinders for patients would be added to the facility while 30 oxygen concentrators were also being tested, he said.

Adham added that Institut Latihan KKM in Sungai Buloh, which has 2,400 beds, will start operations again with category one and two patients placed there.
