South suburban police probe 4 homicides, shots fired at off-duty cop

       Police in the south suburbs are investigating four homicides that took place in recent days as well as an shooting in Harvey where an off-duty police officer was shot at but not injured.

       One of the shooting victims was a 16-year-old male, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

       Medical examiner’s records show the victim as Latrell Walker, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds and whose death was ruled a homicide.

       The shooting occurred in the 18300 block of Anthony Lane in Country Club Hills, according to the medical examiner, but no details were available Monday from the office or police, including whether the victim lived in Country Club Hills or when the shooting took place.

       Early Sunday, a 49-year-old Harvey man, Keith Shanklin, suffered multiple gunshot wounds at a Shell gas station at 273 E. 147th St. in that city, according to the medical examiner’s office.

       Shanklin, of the 14900 block of Washington Avenue, was pronounced dead at 6:42 a.m. Sunday, according to the medical examiner’s office, which ruled the death a homicide.

       In a shooting Saturday in Markham, a 37-year-old resident, Andre Davis, of the 16200 block of St. Louis Avenue, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. His death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner. He was pronounced dead shortly before 5 a.m.

       A spokesman for Markham said Monday that police continue to investigate the shooting, which occurred at the victim’s home, but that nobody is in custody.

       In a shooting Friday in South Holland, a 35-year-old Lansing man was shot to death at a gas station, according to police.

       South Holland police said they responded Friday afternoon to the Shell gas station at 47 E. 162nd St.

       A man later identified as Leroy Felton III, of the 17900 block of Wildwood Avenue, was pronounced dead at 1:45 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the office.

       Police said an investigation involving other agencies is ongoing. Police said that a gun and drugs were found in the victim’s possession.

       Separately, a 45-year-old man from southwest suburban Justice was shot to death Saturday night in Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood.

       Ruben Maravilla, of the 8400 block of 79th Court, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the shooting in the 2800 block of South Kildare Avenue and was pronounced dead at 7:46 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

       In Harvey, just after 6 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of 154th and Wood Streets, near UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital, “numerous shots” were fired at an off-duty Harvey police officer, who was on his way to work, but was not hit by gunfire, the city said in a statement.

       The shooter drove off in a vehicle, which resulted in a car accident, according to the statement. The officer was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation and released and no additional details were available Monday.
