Multiple people injured after roof is ripped OFF double-decker bus at seaside resort in Wales

MULTIPLE people have been injured after the roof of a double-decker bus was ripped OFF at a seaside resort in Wales.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the open-top vehicle collided with a tree in Mumbles, Wales.

Mumbles Road is closed in both directions in the area of the incident while emergency services as well as Wales Air Ambulance work on the scene.

At least two people have bene rushed to hospital following the incident, with others being treated on the scene.

Bus operator First Cymru confirmed that the bus was one of their vehicles - and that representatives were sent to the scene to provide support to those involved and the emergency services.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "Emergency services are at the scene of a collision which involved an open-top bus colliding with a tree on Mumbles Road, near Knab Rock.

"There are a number of injuries, none of which are life-threatening or life-changing."

A Welsh Ambulance Service added: "We were called this afternoon at 2.32pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a double decker bus on the Mumbles Road, Swansea.

“We sent two rapid response vehicles, one emergency care doctor, one emergency ambulance, our emergency medical retrieval and transfer service, the Wales Air Ambulance and our hazardous area response team to the scene.

“Two patients were conveyed to hospital - one by air to University Hospital Wales, Cardiff, and a second by road to Morriston Hospital, Swansea, for further treatment. Several other passengers were assessed and discharged on scene.”

'CHILDREN SCREAMING'

Pictures appear to show the roof of the double decker buss handing off to one side, after being sliced off from the front.

Visitors who were nearby when the bus crashed told Wales Online: "We heard the noise, we knew it was a crash.

"It was hell of a sound like a car crash. Then it sounded like a school, you could hear lots of children screaming.

"There were a lot of kids on the bus. A lot of people were getting quite upset. We didn't know what happened but knew kids were on there."

"They took one away on an air ambulance and all others were ambulances.

"It's a shock and it's upsetting. A car crash is nothing to us but this involved children. I think the branch on the tree was too low and it took the roof off".
