Sir Keir Starmer is facing a backlash as more than 350,000 people have signed a petition demanding an immediate general election. The petition on the official Parliament website hit the milestone just before midday today.
It says: "We want an immediate general election to be held. We think the majority need and want change." The petition, which was set up last month, is due to receive a response from the Government after passing 10,000 signatures. It could also be debated by MPs as it has received over 100,000 names.

A similar petition was debated earlier this year after racking up more than three million signatures.
But the next general election is not due until 2029 after Brits went to the polls in July 2024.
It comes as Sir Keir has faced a difficult first year in power, with support for Labour plummeting since the landslide victory.
