KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Kuasa Rakyat is leaving it to Barisan Nasional to decide whether to accept the party as a component of the coalition, says its founding president Kamarazaman Yaakob.

       He said the new party was a multiracial party which could fill the existing void in the coalition.

       “We are not replacing MCA or MIC as we are a multiracial party and there is a void in Barisan, and that depends on how far they are willing to accept us.

       “It also depends on the political conditions and situation,” he told reporters after the launch of Parti Kuasa Rakyat here yesterday.

       Asked when the party would be registered with the Registrar of Societies, Kamarazaman said Parti Kuasa Rakyat was in discussions with another political party which had been registered in the country to merge and form a new leadership.

       Without naming the party, he said Parti Kuasa Rakyat would focus on the agenda to empower the B40 and M40 groups as well as the youth in the country, apart from being a government-friendly party.

       “Parti Kuasa Rakyat will champion the policy of free education. It will abolish PTPTN (National Higher Education Fund Corporation), pledge to write off all forms of loans and replace it with scholarships, bursaries or something similar to that,” he said.

       “The cancellation of debts only applies to the children of people in the B40 and M40 groups.

       “Similarly, on the matter of giving all forms of scholarships, that is only for B40 and M40 children,” he added.

       Meanwhile, Kamarazaman denied that the new party was orchestrated by certain people, including his brother, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. — Bernama
