Chance to check new voter registration

KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) will hold a pre-registration of automatic voters (SPPA) check from Oct 1 to 31 to allow 5.8 million prospective voters to check and verify their records.

EC secretary Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak said during that period, Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above who had not been registered as voters could verify their details or file an objection before their automatic registration.

The checks can be done via two methods through the MySPR SPPA application at https://mysprsppa.spr.gov.my or by scanning the QR Code of the parliamentary constituencies at the 604 SPPA verification centres nationwide.

Among the centres are the state election headquarters or office, post office, district office, land office, district council, municipal council, multipurpose hall, Rukun Tetangga and penghulu’s office.

For more information, the public can contact state election offices, the EC hotline at 03-8892 7018 or browse the www.spr.my.gov website.

Malaysia is set to implement automatic voter registration and the lowering of voting age to 18 from 21 – known as the Undi18 move – after the Dewan Rakyat passed a Federal Constitution amendment.

The move, however, was delayed when the EC announced that it will only be implemented in September next year.

The postponement was challenged, and on Sept 3 this year, the Kuching High Court ordered the government to implement Undi18 by Dec 31 this year. — Bernama
