KUCHING: Frontliners on duty at a Covid-19 one-stop centre here are full of zeal for their task while working on National Day.

Dr Ameera Abdul Hadi said the lack of large-scale celebrations due to the pandemic had not dampened her spirits.

“Being part of this team to fight Covid-19, I feel even more passionate in carrying out my duties this National Day.

“To me, independence means the spirit of unity and helping one another regardless of race and religion,” she said.

Dr Ameera said she had been working as a frontliner since the pandemic started last year.

She started serving at the one-stop centre at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) community hall in Jalan Padungan three months ago, where her duties include taking samples for swab tests.

Fellow frontliner Nur Azila Hairani said her National Day wish was for the country to be free from Covid-19.

She added that the pandemic was the biggest challenge she had faced since she became a nurse in 2012.

“I’ve been involved in Covid-19 duties since last year and working at the screening centre since May.

“We face all kinds of challenges while taking swab samples, including people’s attitudes.

“It’s disheartening when we’re tired after working all day to see netizens criticising frontliners.

“But there are others who express their support and admiration for us. That gives me encouragement to keep going,” she said.
