Tesco recalls tzatziki dip over salmonella fears

Tesco is recalling its own-brand tzatziki dip after salmonella was detected during testing.

The supermarket issued a warning to customers over batches of the Tesco Tzatziki 200g dipping pots, which costs £1.35, with the use by date of Nov 24.

It told customers with the Greek-style yogurt dip – mixed with cucumber, lemon juice and mint – to return the product to any Tesco store for a refund, with no receipt needed.

Salmonella causes fever, diarrhoea and cramping in the abdomen, according to the NHS. The symptoms can last for up to a week, and may require hospital treatment in more serious cases.

Tesco’s recall statement said: “If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. No receipt is required. For more information, contact Tesco customer services on 0800 505 555.”

The same product was also recalled in 2021, though this was because it had been mis-packaged with sour cream and chive dip, posing a potential threat to people with egg allergies.

       Tesco was contacted for comment.
