Gary Goldsmith, 58, is a millionaire businessman who made his money in recruitment.
He is the younger brother of Carole Middleton and uncle to Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, Pippa and James.
Gary is the son of a painter and decorator from West London and grandson of a miner from a pit village in Durham.
He was eight when sister Carole left high school and joined British Airways as a stewardess where she met Michael Middleton.

At 15 he was an usher at Carole and Michael's wedding.
When Gary – who has been married four times — left school he got a job working as an IT operator.
He married his first wife, sales executive Miranda Foote, in 1991.
Gary joined IT recruitment company Computer Futures and within six months he was a director and owned shares.
He reportedly then bought a five-bedroom house in Maidenhead, Berkshire, with a swimming pool and snooker room, invested in a boat, and drove a series of supercars.

Gary married his second wife Luan in 1997 but the marriage broke down.
In 2005, he sold his shares in Computer Futures for £17?million and bought a villa in Ibiza.
He married – and divorced – his third wife Julia Leake, a 32-year-old accountant, before getting married to his fourth wife Julie-Ann.
Gary was joined by ex-wife Luan and their young Talullah at Kate and William’s wedding in 2011.
He also attended Pippa’s Berkshire wedding with daughter Tallulah, alongside Kate, hubby Prince William and other royals.
Prince William spent a holiday with Kate at Maison de Bang Bang - his eight-acre hideaway on the party island of Ibiza - in 2006.
He reportedly lent nephew James £11,000 to help him set up his company selling cake-making kits.
Goldsmith was arrested on 13 October 2017 after allegedly assaulting Julie-Ann outside their central London home.
The pair had got into a row in a taxi after a night out at the exclusive Home private members’ club in Portman Square, Marylebone.
The Met said at the time of his arrest: “Police in Westminster were called to an address at 01:24hrs on Friday 13 October follo-wing reports of a domestic incident.
“Officers arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of domestic assault.
"He has been taken to a central London police station for questioning.
"A woman found in--jured was taken to hospital.”
Goldsmith was bailed and attended a hearing on 31 October.
On 14 November he pleaded guilty to to knocking out his wife during a drunken street brawl at Westminster Magistrates court.
He was handed a £5,000 fine for the incident in October 2017 and ordered into alcohol rehabilitation.
Chief Magistrate Emma Arbuthnot said she was "looking at" handing him a community order rather than a jail term.
But she added: “I am looking at ways of protecting this lady from this man. There may be alcohol issues involved.”

Insiders said Gary is CBB’s most controversial signing.
The source added: “The CBB team love him because of his link to Kate and the fact that he’s confident and loud and won’t hold back.
“He’s made it clear he will talk about everything and anything, and he’s pretty outspoken when it comes to Harry and Meghan.
“Gary also holds a deep affection for Kate and Wills and will be able to give a fascinating insight into what it’s really like being related to the future King and Queen.
