MALAYSIAN singer Gary Chaw (pic), who has been involved in drunken brawls, drew flak online for openly supporting Hollywood superstar Will Smith’s act of smacking actor-comedian Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars recently, reported Sin Chew Daily.

“My man!!! I would’ve done worse. Even sober,” he wrote on Instagram, adding that he has huge respect for Smith’s actions.

Chaw’s response drew criticisms from Internet users who brought up the singer’s past behaviour.

“Your favourite. This is something you like to do (isn’t it?),” one netizen wrote.

Chaw hit back in the comments, saying: “Ya... and what are you gonna do about it?”

In 2009, the 42-year-old singer was reported to have been in a drunken brawl with Hong Kong singer Justin Lo, after which he vowed to abstain from alcohol for a year.

In 2013, after quarrelling with his wife, a drunken Chaw was seen dragging a female make-up artist on stage.

Singer Alien Huang, who was in the audience, had to haul him off the stage.

Chaw later apologised for his act and swore to quit show business if he ever drank again.

Chaw’s wife Wu Su-ling had also given him an ultimatum and said that things would be “critical” between them if he had another drunken episode.

The couple were married in 2008 and have two children.

Earlier this month, Chaw was filmed yet again in what was believed to be a drunken outburst at a restaurant in Taiwan.

Police confirmed that it was indeed Chaw who was involved in an altercation with other guests at a restaurant in Taipei’s Neihu district on March 7.

The singer later threatened to sue the whistleblower who uploaded the video online for making false accusations against him.

Chaw rose to fame for his song Superwoman in 2006 and was named Best Male Mandarin Singer at Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards in 2008.

       > A man in Shenzhen, China, ended up in the hospital after attempting to cut his foreskin using what was advertised as a self-circumcision tool he bought online, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The man in his 20s, whose surname is Wang, sought help at the Hengsheng hospital after the botched surgery he performed on himself.

The doctors found that his foreskin had a huge gash and that he was bleeding profusely. His genitals were also swollen.

According to the hospital, the man claimed that he bought a “circumcision device” online and performed the surgery on himself without anaesthesia or first sterilising his equipment.

However, due to a mistake he made, Wang said he felt a sharp pain on his penis right after using the device. He started bleeding profusely.

Doctors bandaged his wound and kept him at the hospital for a few days for observation before sending him home.
