PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded new vehicle sales of 56,213 units in April 2022, down 3.63% from 58,329 units a year ago due to shortages of chips and components.

       In its monthly update, the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said the total industry volume for April 2022 was 23% lower than March 2022, which was at 73,222 units. The association said the shortage of chips and components, as well as shipment delays, affected some companies.

       “Much of the sales had been fulfilled by companies having their financial year ended on March 31,” it added.

       MAA said of the total sales, passenger vehicles accounted for 49,815 units while commercial vehicles comprised 6,398 units. Year-to-date sales stood at 215,965 units, up 7.96% from the 200,043 units recorded in the same period last year.
