KOTA KINABALU: Members of the Armed Forces and their families at the Lok Kawi army camp near here are expected to enjoy better housing facilities when construction works for new workers quarters and amenities start.
The new housing project worth about RM188mil is expected to be completed in 2025, with a total of 513 new units and other facilities such as parking lots, children’s playgrounds and water tank towers in place.
According to a statement by the Fifth Infantry Division, these additional new quarters are needed as many of the armed forces based in Lok Kawi rent outside due to lack of space and quarters units.
These armed forces are forced to pay high rents located far from work as well, said the statement.
There are only 462 units of workers quarters at the Lok Kawi army camp presently.
With the completion of the new buildings, armed forces and their families can live more comfortably, said the statement.
Earlier on Friday (Feb 25), Deputy Works Minister Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup (pic) was present to witness the signing of an agreement letter between an appointed contractor and Public Works Department (JKR) director-general, Datuk Mohamad Zulkefly Sulaiman to mark the start of the project.
