PETALING JAYA: Taliworks Corp Bhd has received a RM293.86mil contract to develop the first phase of the Sungai Rasau water treatment plant from Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd.

       In a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, Taliworks said it had received the letter of award that included the proposed development of phase one of the project.

       The scope of works comprised designing and building the new Bukit Lipat Kajang booster station, reservoirs and associated facilities including civil, structural and building, pumping plant mechanical works, electrical, instrumentation, controls and automation as well as building services.

       Taliworks said the completion date for the project would be on Dec 31, 2024 or 36？ months from the date of the possession of the site, which is slated to be on Dec 15.

       “The contract is expected to contribute positively to Taliworks group’s earnings and net assets for the duration of the contract,” the group said.

       It was reported that there were nine bidders for the project that was called for tender by Air Selangor in May.

       Under the first phase of the water treatment plant there will be three packages that could worth a total of RM4bil.

       In a media briefing in June, Air Selangor said that the first phase involved the construction of a 700-million-litre-a-day treatment plant, while the second phase will double the capacity. The project is expected to be completed by 2024.

       The treatment plant has the mandate to supply water to Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya.

       The current water supply reserve margin in Klang will drop to 1.9% by 2024 without the Rasau Water Treatment plant, according to the Air Selangor website.

       “The Sungai Selangor scheme, as a single source for raw water supply, poses a high risk,” it added.
