DAR ES SALAAM, April 15 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania's Zanzibar authorities on Friday announced the launch of a new state-of-the-art center for rehabilitating drug addicts, mostly youths, in the archipelago.

       The center will help rehabilitate addicted youths and fight drug abuse, said Harusi Said Suleiman, minister of state in the First Vice-President's Office dealing with narcotics, HIV and the environment.

       "We encourage all addicted young people to use the rehabilitation center to get back to normal life, because we need them in building the country," she said when visiting the center, located at Kidimni on Unguja Island.

       Burhani Zubeir Nassoro, commissioner-general for the Zanzibar Drugs Control and Enforcement Authority, said 33 youths are undergoing rehabilitation at the center.

       Youths undergoing rehabilitation at the center will be trained in modern livestock keeping, poultry farming and vehicle repairs, Nassoro said.
