KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities have cut electricity supply to an online gambling den in a shoplot along Jalan Lebuh Pudu in a bid to stop such activity.

       The new tenant to occupy the premises will need to get a written permission from a police officer to reconnect the electricity supply there.

       City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Saiful Annuar Yusoff said they raided the gambling den at around 7pm on Thursday (Oct 21).

       "During the raid, we arrested 17 suspects, including two foreigners, who acted as caretakers of the premises, as well as 15 people who were gambling there using laptops and tablets.

       "We seized nine laptops, 11 tablets, 20 mouse devices, 24 chairs, one bet-keeping book, two mobile phones, two internet data devices, one computer monitor, a keyboard and RM664," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 25).

       He said all the suspects have been charged under Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act on Monday.

       SAC Saiful Annuar said Tenaga Nasional Berhad workers had gone to the premises at around 3pm on Monday to cut the electricity supply there following an application filed by Dang Wangi police.

       "This was carried out under Section 21A of the Common Gaming Houses Act.

       "If anyone wants to reconnect the electricity supply, they will need a written permission from a senior police officer with the rank of Deputy Superintendent and above," he said.

       SAC Saiful Annuar also warned the public not to take part in gambling activities as the police would not hesitate to take stern action against those caught breaking the law.
