Record hit of 22,948 new cases reported

       PUTRAJAYA: For the second day running, Malaysia logged another daily Covid-19 record after 22,948 new cases were reported.

       This surpasses the 22,242 cases recorded the previous day.

       In his daily Covid-19 statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 98% of the new infections were either mild or asymptomatic cases.

       The other 2% or 457 cases are those in Category 3, 4 and 5, which requires hospitalisation.

       Dr Noor Hisham said 78.4% or 17,981 of the cases involved those who have not been fully vaccinated.

       Malaysia’s cumulative cases now stand at 1,489,460.

       Selangor still has the most number of cases with 7,175 infections.

       Two states with more than 2,000 cases were Sabah with 2,583 and Kedah with 2,137.

       In terms of seven-day average, Selangor has the highest with 6,674 cases, followed by Sabah (1,971 cases) and Kedah (1,741).

       Labuan has the lowest weekly average at four cases.

       The national infectivity rate is 1.04, with Perlis having the highest at 1.33 and Sarawak at 1.21.

       On Covid-19 recoveries, 21,720 more patients were discharged yesterday, bringing the total number to 1,220,446.

       There were 178 more deaths, with 65 of them in Selangor.

       Out of this, 35 cases were classified as brought-in-dead, comprising 26 Malaysians and nine foreigners.

       The country’s death toll now stands at 13,480.

       Currently, there are 255,534 active cases nationwide, with 1,060 under intensive care and 528 on ventilator support.

       Dr Noor Hisham also said 42 new clusters were detected across the country.

       Of this, 23 are workplace clusters with 972 confirmed cases.

       Another 15 clusters were community outbreaks with 423 infections.
