KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): A total of 36 new Covid-19 clusters were recorded Monday (Aug 9) with 19 of them linked to workplaces, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health director-general said 13 clusters were community clusters, two detention centre clusters and one cluster each linked to high-risk and religious groups.

"Johor recorded the most workplace clusters with eight clusters, followed by Selangor (four) and Kedah (two) while Kelantan, Perlis, Penang, Sarawak and Terengganu each reported one workplace cluster," he said.

He said Kelantan recorded the most community clusters at eight clusters, Pahang (three), and one each in Selangor and Johor.

Dr Noor Hisham said a total of 212 fatalities due to Covid-19 were reported Monday and 16 of them died at home.

He said the total number of active cases stood at 227,230 cases Monday, while 1,095 patients required treatment in intensive care units (ICU) with 579 patients needing respiratory assistance.

He added that a total of 15,187 recoveries were recorded Monday, bringing the total tally of recovered cases to 1.041 million.

Dr Noor Hisham said of the 17,236 new COVID-19 cases reported today, 372 cases or 2.2% were in Categories 3, 4 and 5, adding 16,864 of cases (97.8%) were patients from Categories 1 and 2, who were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, respectively.

He said only 4,556 cases, or 26.4%, of the new Covid-19 cases reported Monday had a history of Covid-19 vaccination. - Bernama
