Hideshi Futori (Mainichi)
Hideshi Futori, a 44-year-old newcomer candidate running on a Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan ticket, has beaten ruling Liberal Democratic Party Secretary General Akira Amari to secure a seat in the Kanagawa No. 13 constituency in the Oct. 31 House of Representatives election.
Amari, 72, aimed to secure his 13th victory in a general election, but came up short in a one-on-one contest between the ruling party and opposition forces' united front after he failed to fend off criticism over his involvement in a financial scandal.
