AN amendment to the Federal Constitution related to the anti-party hopping Bill will be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat next week, says Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said this assurance was given by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob at a meeting with him, Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng in Parliament yesterday.
“We have an assurance from the Prime Minister that an amendment to the Constitution related to the anti-party hopping Bill will be tabled next week,” Anwar said in a Facebook post.
He said they also requested the Prime Minister to loosen the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) during campaigning in the Johor election.
“We proposed SOP flexibility be granted to facilitate the Johor election campaign process.
“We also reiterated our stance in Parliament this morning that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should act without being selective (on prosecutions),” he added.
Pakatan Harapan recently told the government the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with Perikatan Nasional would be declared void if the anti-party hopping Bill was not tabled in the current Dewan Rakyat meeting which runs from Feb 28 to March 24.
The MOU inked in September last year was aimed at reforms and political stability for the nation.
The reforms included limiting the post of prime minister to two terms.
