AMPANG: A 22-year-old man was detained for allegedly attempting to assault his 17-year-old niece at their home in Tasik Tambahan here.

       Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the suspect, who was armed with a steel rod, had tried to stomp on his niece when she was in the living room of their home at about 3.30am on Monday (Aug 9).

       "Fearing for her life, the victim ran out of the home and lodged a police report.

       "She suspected that her uncle was under the influence of drugs," he said when contacted on Monday.

       The suspect was arrested at home at about 7.30am on Monday, he added.

       "The suspect has prior drug-related offences.

       "However, he tested negative for drugs after an initial urine test was performed," he said.

       ACP Mohamad Farouk said the suspect has been remanded until Thursday (Aug 12).

       "We are investigating the matter under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation," he said.
