Guardians being probed for niece’s murder

       IPOH: A married couple has been remanded for seven days for allegedly abusing and causing the death of their eight-year-old niece.

       The girl’s younger brother is also suspected to have been abused.

       Magistrate Anis Hanini Abdullah ordered for their uncle and aunt, both aged 40, to be remanded from yesterday to May 22.

       The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

       When contacted, Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the victim’s six-year-old brother was also believed to have been abused.

       “The boy is currently receiving treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun.

       “The victim and her brother were living with the couple as their parents are divorced.

       “The six-year-old was rescued from the couple’s house at Desa Pengkalan Bandaraya on the same day,” he added.

       Comm Mior Faridalathrash had in a statement on Sunday night said that the girl is believed to have died from suspected abuse.

       He said the victim was brought to the hospital on Sunday by ambulance and was pronounced dead at about 1.45am.

       “Checks on the body found injuries believed to be from abuse.

       “A medical officer at the hospital then lodged a report at about 3.15am.

       “A post-mortem conducted on the body determined the cause of death to be multiple blunt-force injuries,” he added.
