A 61-year-old worker died from injuries suffered during a workplace accident Thursday when he became trapped in equipment at a Geneva steel polishing factory, Geneva Fire Department officials said.
Raymondo Escobar, of Montgomery, was taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva and pronounced dead Thursday evening, Kane County Coroner Rob Russell said. The cause of death was listed as asphyxia due to a machinery mishap.
Geneva firefighters were called to Bar Technologies, 500 Power Fluid Drive, just after 7 p.m. Thursday after getting a report about a person being trapped in a piece of machinery at the business. Fire department officials said that by the time they arrived, the man was removed from the machinery by co-workers.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the worker’s death, fire officials said.
