KOTA KINABALU: Wedding ceremonies and religious activities such as blessings, baptism, paying last respects and religious classes in non-Muslims places of worships are now allowed in Sabah.
The number of people at such events, however, is based on the respective premises’ capacity, taking into account the one-metre physical distancing requirement.
“Social activities like kenduri, gotong-royong and the likes are allowed with the one metre distancing rule. The relaxed SOPs will take place effective Saturday (April 9), in line with transitioning into the endemic phase.
“However, religious classes for children below 12 years old are still not allowed, as well as any ceremony that involves physical contact,” said state Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun in a statement on Tuesday (April 5).
He added that activities allowed include mass prayers and social activities at places of worship.
He also reiterated that adults who have not been fully vaccinated are not allowed in, as well as those with Covid-19 symptoms.
Members of the congregation are also asked to refrain from shaking hands with and hugging each other.
Meanwhile, activities at funeral parlours are also allowed.
“Social activities like having food and beverage is permitted,” said Masidi, adding that the same rule applies at burial grounds and crematoriums.
He also stressed that social activities like gambling and similar are not allowed.
