MELAKA: A 26-year-old teacher from Jasin here, who stripped online for a stranger, is now being blackmailed.
Melaka CID chief Asst Comm Mohd Sukri Kaman said the male victim befriended a woman online through the MiChat app and was asked to go nude for five minutes during a video call.
"The woman, who was also nude, invited the victim to get naked during the video call and the latter obliged after only knowing her for two hours," he said on Monday (Aug 23).
ACP Mohd Sukri said the victim was taken aback when the woman sent him a 30-second naked video of himself.
"The woman threatened to circulate the video if the victim did not pay RM200 to her and promised to delete the video," he said.
ACP Mohd Sukri said the victim was later asked to deposit RM600, and he did so on Saturday (Aug 21).
He said the money was deposited in three transactions into a bank account belonging to one "Hernie John".
ACP Mohd Sukri said the victim lodged a report at Jasin police headquarters on Saturday after the blackmail continued.
"We are now in the midst of tracing the suspect," he said.
ACP Mohd Sukri said so far this year, Melaka police have registered 10 cases where victims were persuaded to strip nude before being recorded by scammers.
He said six cases were reported in Melaka Tengah district and four in Jasin.
"The perpetrators themselves strip before coaxing their victims to do the same and later blackmailing them.
"If the victims do not pay, the videos and photos are sent to their friends and family members besides being uploaded on social media," he said.
ACP Mohd Sukri advised the public to not be fooled by people they barely know.
