GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state assembly started its sitting on Wednesday (Sept 1) by observing a minute's silence in honour of former Bertam assemblyman Zabariah Abdul Wahab and Batu Uban assemblyman Datuk Kee Phaik Cheen.

Zabariah, a former state Wanita Umno chief, passed away at Hospital Sultan Abdul Halim on July 22, while seeking treatment at the hospital in Sungai Petani. She served between 2008-2013.

Kee, who served as an exco member for tourism and arts from 1990 to 2004 from Gerakan, succumbed to complications arising from Covid-19 on Aug 4.

Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang also reminded members of the state assembly to strictly follow standard operating procedure during the period of the meeting.

Law also said during the session, a total of 60 oral and 670 written questions will be presented.

"The meeting will convene until all business is completed," he said when announcing the start of the meeting on Wednesday (Sept 1).

The second day of the sitting will also see one bill of law and one motion being tabled.

The Penang state assembly, which began on Monday (Aug 30), will be conducted until Sept 8 in the newly upgraded state assembly building.
