IPOH: A 43-year-old owner of a fish processing company died following an explosion at his office in Hutan Melintang.
Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Adnan Basri said the incident happened at about 8am on Wednesday (Feb 16).
He said a distress call was made to the Hutan Melintang police station by a man stating that an explosion had happened at the premises located on Jalan Tepi Sungai.
“The incident happened inside the office of the processing company where the whole office was destroyed by the explosion.
“Checks at the site found the body of the deceased in a sitting position on his chair, where half of his body and the chair were burnt,” he said.
ACP Ahmad said the room initially was fitted with one office table, a chair, and an air conditioning unit.
He said there were no other workers when the incident happened, but another owner of a processing company next door who heard the explosion quickly tried to put out the fire before he called the Fire and Rescue Department.
He added that the police forensic team together with the forensics team from the department as well as the bomb squad found no explosives at the site.
ACP Ahmad said the cause of explosion is believed to be from a condensation of a flammable material which has yet to be identified.
He said the investigation did not reveal any criminal elements, and the deceased also did not have any family or business problems.
“The case is believed to be due to negligence from an accident and is classified as sudden death.
“The body was sent to the Teluk Intan for a postmortem to determine the cause of death,” he added.
