GEORGE TOWN: Most businesses in Penang are bustling due to the long weekend as well as the stable Covid-19 situation, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister, who was in Penang on an official trip, took the opportunity to sample the delicious local food.

“Due to the Harvest Festival in East Malaysia and the King’s birthday public holiday, coupled with the school holidays which started on Friday (June 3), the number of tourists in Penang has increased significantly.

“Many food centres and restaurants are crowded and I am happy to see business is bustling and prosperous like before the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (June 4).

Dr Wee also shared his experience of waiting in line with the public for food.

“This morning, I waited in line with the public for food.

“After waiting for about 10mins, I finally tasted the famous Penang koay teow soup.

“It really lived up to its reputation.

“The koay teow soup is delicious and it is definitely a well-worth trip!” he said.
