KUALA LUMPUR: An expose of abuse of power among high-ranking government officers by Edisi_SiasatMY on Twitter has tarnished the image of the police, former defence minister Mohamad Sabu (PH-Kota Raja) told the Dewan Rakyat.

Saying such exposes were not new in the country, he added that former inspector-general of (IGP) Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador had raised concerns over corruption and abuse of power among politicians, but these were not investigated.

"He was not a Sarjan in Gua Musang or a Lans Koporal in Tawau. He was the IGP and he exposed how corruption is rampant among politicians.

"(Over six months) since the revelations were made, there has been no serious investigation. Was it an empty allegation by the IGP?" he asked during his speech on Budget 2022 on Wednesday (Nov 3).

"If it is an empty allegation, sue Hamid for tarnishing the police and country's image," he added.

Before Abdul Hamid stepped down as IGP, he held a no-holds-barred press conference on April 30 where he criticised political interference in police appointments.

Abdul Hamid had also claimed there was rampant corruption involving "political frogs" and the matter should be investigated.

"Even former IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan came forward calling for immediate investigations because action must be taken if it's defamatory," he said.

Earlier in the House, de facto law minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar told the House that the government would be impartial in investigating the revelations by Edisi_SiasatMY.

On Oct 25, Musa said police have to verify claims made by Edisi_SiasatMY before investigations can be conducted on the officers involved.

Musa had said the officers concerned can take civil action if the claims by Edisi_SiasatMY were unfounded.
