KOTA KINABALU: Over 900 children around the state are back to studying online as their schools were hit by floods.

These 985 students are from the following schools; SMK St Paul, SK Lago, SK Bukau, Tenom - SK Gumisi, SK Ladong Sapong, SJKC Yuk Syn and SK Inubai in Beaufort as well as Penampang district’s SK Tombovo.

Sabah Education Department director Datuk Mistirine Radin said students of the affected schools in Beaufort and Tenom might have to do their online learning longer as the flood situation was still bad there.

       SJKC Yuk Syn.

“For Penampang, teachers are already cleaning up school compounds and classrooms as flash floods hit,” she said.

She said pupils in this district should be able to resume classes in their school by Wednesday (May 11).

       SK Gumisi.

“Our priority is the safety of our students and staff, online sessions will be held as long as needed,” Mistirine said.

Beaufort and Tenom have been hit by floods over the past few days and there have been no reports of evacuation thus far.
