MELAKA: Melaka MCA liaison secretary Datuk Koh Chin Han (pic) is thrilled to build on his new skill of engaging the grassroots through social media.
The Barisan Nasional candidate for the Bemban seat said he has been active on Facebook and TikTok for over a year now.
“I have been working with a team of young people for my content (development) and it has been fun learning new things together.
“There are many ways to present a message to different target audiences, and shooting pictures and videos.
“Life is about learning regardless of age and I’m glad to have this chance,” he said yesterday.
The 51-year-old father of two revealed that he at times also engaged his 20- and 21-year-old daughters to hear their views.
“Their comments and input have helped me improve,” he revealed.
Koh, who has been actively serving the folk in Jasin for over two decades, said the Covid-19 pandemic has turned campaigning for the coming state polls into a whole new ball game.
“This time around, online campaigning will be the focus and the Internet will play an important role. This is the time when we really need to utilise our youths and their tech-savviness,” he said.
The Bemban seat will see a five-cornered fight with Koh facing off Perikatan Nasional’s Dr Mohd Yadzil Yaakub, Pakatan Harapan’s Datuk Tey Kok Kiew and Independents Azmi Kamis and Ng Choon Koon.
Koh said he had not expected so many to join the fray, and predicted a tough fight.
“No matter what, I will not take my opponents lightly,” he said.
Koh said he was confident of having the support of the older voters despite many of them not being well-versed with social media.
“Of course, the new media will be strange to them. But they know who I am and what I have been doing all these years. I will do my best in the campaign and let the people judge which party can really serve them better, ” he said.
