IPOH: Police have busted eight members of a drug syndicate in various locations here, seizing narcotics worth RM4.5mil in total.
Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the suspects, aged between 32 and 37 years old, were arrested in several locations including houses and vehicles.
He said the arrests were made between 11am and 5.30pm on March 21 in, among other places, Simpang Pulai, Meru and Jelapang.
“The modus operandi of this group is to bring in the supply from the east coast for distribution in Perak.
“The syndicate is believed to have been active since the middle of last year,” he told a press conference at the police contingent headquarters here Thursday (March 24).
Comm Mior Faridalathrash said the drugs seized were syabu, heroin and ketamine and could be supplied to more than 620,000 addicts.
“Urine tests on all the eight suspects came back negative, but five of them have records for drug and criminal offences.
“During the raids, assets including five cars, three pieces of jewellery and cash amounting to RM42,300 were also confiscated,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and the suspects have been remanded for seven days until March 28.
“We are still trying to trace the remaining syndicate members,” Comm Mior Faridalathrash added.
