PUTRAJAYA: Discussions will be held with several ministries before an announcement is made regarding driving institutes and express bus operators who are still unable to operate fully, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong

He said proposals involving these two sectors would be discussed in detail with the Health and Finance ministries and the National Security Council to find solutions to the issues that plagued the industry as they were still unable to operate due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We hope these groups can be patient.

“The Transport Ministry will make an announcement on this matter after discussions with the relevant ministries,” he said yesterday after holding a virtual dialogue with leaders of associations representing driving institutes and express bus companies here yesterday.

Among those who took part in the online session were Malaysian Driving Training Centre Operators Association chairman Tan Yang Kiong and secretary Teo Kock Kee, as well as the Malaysian Driving Institute Association president Mat Aris Bakar.

Representatives from the Malaysian Express Bus Operators Organisation, Pan Malaysia Bus Operators Association and Peninsular Malaysia Malay Express Bus Operators Association also took part in the discussions with Dr Wee.

Other officials who joined the virtual meeting were Road Transport Department deputy director-general (Operations) Aedy Fadly Ramli and Malaysian Driving Industry Standards and Modernisation Council chairman Datuk Hanafi Mat Zin.
