JOHOR BARU: All but one flood relief centre (PPS) in Tangkak have closed operations as more evacuees returned home.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said the SMK Tun Sri Lanang PPS closed its doors at 10am while the centres at SK Pengkalan Besar, Sekolah Agama Bukit Rahmat and SK Bukit Rahmat closed at 2pm Wednesday (Jan 12).

“There are 23 PPS in Segamat, Muar, Tangkak and Batu Pahat still operating to provide shelter to 1,044 evacuees from 295 families as of 6pm Wednesday.

“The numbers have dropped compared with 1,227 from 351 families recorded at 8am.

“Sunny skies were reported across Johor. Sungai Muar at Bukit Kepong, which was in the dangerous zone level, is also on the downward trend.

“It is now at the level of 3.70m compared with 3.83m earlier,” he said in a statement.

He added that roads that were closed to traffic earlier have been reopened except for Felda Bukit Aping at Jalan Kemuning 1, Kota Tinggi.

The road is closed to all vehicles as there is soil erosion along a 25m stretch of the road.
