No hidden agenda behind Ku Li's meet with Kelantan Opposition members, says Umno supreme council member

PETALING JAYA: The meeting between Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah with several Kelantan Opposition leaders is normal and did not have a specific agenda, says Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias.

The Umno supreme council member said that as such, the necessity of taking disciplinary action against Tengku Razaleigh did not arise.

"We don't really know the gist of their discussions but anyone can meet during the Hari Raya festive season," Sinar Harian quoted Jalaluddin as saying.

"A lot of perception will rise especially with the coming general election, but I feel it is not right to comment too much on the meeting," he added.

It was reported on April 26 that Tengku Razaleigh had met several Kelantan Amanah leaders to allegedly discuss working together to overthrow the state PAS administration in the 15th general election.

However, Jalaluddin said Umno could not remain silent if the meeting had a specific agenda to overthrow the Barisan Nasional government.

"However, this is must be proven as if it is only a perception and allegations, there is no reason to take any action," he said.

Jalaluddin said Umno should only take action if there was clear evidence of a breach of the party's constitution.

Earlier, Padang Rengas MP Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz had called on Umno to take disciplinary action against Tengku Razaleigh for not abiding by the party's decision to back the current government.

Nazri also criticised the Gua Musang MP for remaining in the independent bloc in parliament.

"His letter to the Dewan Rakyat speaker is already enough for us to take action against him, as he no longer supports the government of the day led by an Umno president. That is opposing," said Nazri.

Last July, the Gua Musang MP sent a letter to Parliament Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun requesting to change his seat in Parliament to the independent bloc.

Recently, it was reported that Tengku Razaleigh will head a new coalition called Angkatan Amanah Merdeka Rakyat Kelantan in an effort to topple the PAS-led Kelantan state government in the upcoming general election.

Kelantan Umno liaison body chief Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakob has since criticised Tengku Razaleigh's decision to remain in the independent bloc, saying that this is not the official party stand.
