ISKANDAR PUTERI: All Malaysia Games (Sukma) facilities will be open to the public and international sports bodies which want to rent them, says state executive councillor Mohd Hairi Mad Shah.

This was to ensure that these venues do not end up being “white elephants” and also to give the people a chance to have a closer look at the facilities, he said.

“Although Sukma has been postponed to 2024, we have continued to receive enquiries from sports associations keen on renting some of these facilities.

“One of the most requested venues is the Johor Velodrome, which has been open to the public from Sunday.

“We also welcome any sports associations, from Singapore or other countries, when international borders reopen on April 1,” he said when met after clocking in for duty at the Johor Sukma secretariat office in East Ledang here yesterday.

Mohd Hairi, who is youth, sports, entrepreneur development, cooperatives and human resources committee chairman, said some of the facilities were under the jurisdiction of the Johor sports council and local authorities.

“I plan to meet with state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor to see that the facilities under its care are also open to the public,” he added.

Mohd Hairi also said he was setting himself a personal KPI (key performance indicator) to achieve at least a 30% to 50% success rate in all programmes under his portfolio.
