KLANG: The Perikatan Nasional component parties will contest under a single banner and logo in the upcoming Melaka by-election.

       Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said this decision was arrived upon at the group's special supreme council meeting which he chaired on Tuesday (Oct 26).

       All Perikatan partners – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, PAS, Sabah STAR, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and Gerakan - had attended the meeting, added Muhyiddin.

       "The special meeting had specifically discussed matters related to the Malacca by-election," he said in a statement.

       Muhyiddin then said that the Perikatan supreme council had decided that Bersatu, PAS and Gerakan will contest in the by- election by collectively using the Perikatan logo.

       "Negotiations for the seats will be finalised by the Perikatan seat negotiation committee,” he added.

       "The supreme council has also decided that all Perikatan component parties will fully activate their respective party machineries and combine forces and effort to win the trust of Melakans in order to win the by-election," said Muhyiddin.

       He added that Perikatan will always hold on to the aspiration of building unity and ensuring an administration which has integrity and care for the people's well-being.
