PADANG TERAP - A teenage boy died while four others were injured after they were electrocuted in a rice field in Kampung Tanjung Putus, Kedah, on Oct 30.
Muhammad Hariyz Akief Noraimi, 14, a student at Dato Syed Ahmad Secondary School, died while receiving treatment at Kuala Nerang Hospital, reported Sinar Harian on Oct 31.
Assistant Superintendent Yukhrul Mohd Yusof, Padang Terap management division head, said the incident is believed to have happened at 6.30pm when the victim and his four friends went to the rice field to retrieve an artificial fishing bait that was stuck on an electric cable.
He said one of the victim’s friends got up on the motorcycle seat and tried to hook the artificial bait using an aluminium pole.
“At that time, the victim, along with his other friends, held the motorcycle so it wouldn’t fall.
“While trying to hook the artificial bait, the five teenagers got an electric shock, causing them to faint.
“The four friends of the victim regained consciousness shortly after, but the victim was unconscious.
