PASIR MAS: Some 400 underprivileged families in Kelantan received food aid through the Regional Ramadan Relief 2024 programme.

Each of the food packs contained rice, sugar, flour, cooking oil, milk, canned food, among others. The gifts were from Islamic Aid Malaysia (IAM).

IAM president Zawahir Abdullah said the recipients included single mothers, orphans and disabled persons, Bernama reported.

He said Maybank Islamic has allocated funds totaling RM1.7mil for this year’s efforts, with IAM entrusted to spearhead the programme.

“The Regional Ramadan Relief programme will extend its reach to 11 countries including Thailand, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Singapore, to provide assistance to 6,000 underprivileged families in collaboration with Islamic Relief Malaysia, Mercy Malaysia and Yayasan Ikhlas,” he told reporters after distributing donations to the group at the Kubang Panjang Mosque here yesterday.

In Kuala Lumpur, Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk R. Ramanan said 5,000 packets of bubur lambuk would be distributed at Ramadan bazaars, mosques and surau in Sungai Buloh throughout the fasting month.

The Sungai Buloh MP said he hoped the free food would enliven the Ramadan atmosphere in the constituency, as it has become a tradition and a special treat during iftar.

“Yesterday, I took the opportunity to personally distribute bubur lambuk to the people of Sungai Buloh, meeting them in the spirit of unity and togetherness.

“A total of 500 packets of bubur lambuk were distributed at Saujana Utama Ramadan Bazaar and another 250 packets at the mosques and surau around the area,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Ramanan said he also had the opportunity to engage with traders and visitors and offer ‘duit raya’ to children.

He said besides distributing bubur lambuk, his service centre has also lined up various programmes for the local Muslim community including iftar sessions with asnaf, activities for the youth and orphans as well as zakat distribution programmes.

And he said he would continue donating his salary as an elected representative to the mosques in his constituency.

“This has been my commitment since being elected as an MP and I intend to do so for the duration of my tenure,” he said.
