JOHOR BARU: Three men died while two others sustained serious injuries when their car was involved in a road accident along Jalan Rumbia 3 in Taman Daya here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said that the incident happened around 2.20am on Monday (Sept 27) morning.

“Initial investigation found that the car was speeding through Jalan Daya towards Setia Indah where the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit another car parked on the left side road shoulder.

“The impact caused the moving car to spin and hit a tree, as well as breaking the stone fence wall of a house near the scene,” he said when contacted.

ACP Raub said that due to the incident, the three backseat passengers died at the scene, while the driver and the front passenger sustained serious head injuries.

He added that police then called the Fire and Rescue Department to assist in pulling out the victims, who were all in their 20s, from the wrecked car.

ACP Raub said the two victims have been sent to Sultan Ismail Hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies have also been sent to the same hospital for postmortem.

“So far, the case is still under police investigation to ascertain whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the accident.

“Investigations also found no injuries to the occupants of the house during the incident,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In an unrelated matter, ACP Raub said police have seized 82 motorcycles and detained six motorcyclists for being under the influence of drugs during an operation against Mat Rempit at several locations around here.

He added that police issued 75 summonses during the operation at Jalan Stulang Laut, Jalan Ibrahim Sultan and near the city area, which was a known hotspot for youth motorcycle groups, around 5pm on Sunday (Sept 26).

“The summonses involved 133 offences including not having a driving licence and modifications on their bikes.

“Police also carried out drug tests on 50 motorcyclists, and six of them tested positive for drugs. They are being detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952,” he said.

ACP Raub said that his men also detained another motorcyclist under Section 108 of the Road Transport Act 1987 after checks on his motorcycle found he used a fake registration number.
