KUALA KANGSAR: Civil servants who have yet to be vaccinated should be more open-minded and to get themselves immunised against Covid-19, says Mentri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad (pic).

He said there are still civil servants who have yet to be vaccinated and they will face disciplinary action.

“Please go to the nearest health facility to get the vaccine.

“It’s not that we are being cruel, but we need to protect the people at large,” he told a press conference after a town hall session with civil servants at Dewan Millenium in Lubok Merbau, Kuala Kangsar on Monday (Nov 1).

“Those who are not vaccinated have a chance to get infected and also infect others, what more when they are teachers or those who sit at counters and would meet with the people.

“I agree with the policy as mentioned by the Chief Secretary (to the Government),” he added.

Earlier, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said civil servants must be vaccinated before Nov 1 and those who refused to do so could face disciplinary action.

Saarani said while the government cannot force the civil servants to get the vaccine, it could still enforce certain laws to compel them to do so.

“Civil servants are also bound by rules.

“It’s like when we apply for jobs and we have to go for medical check-ups to ensure (there are) no health complications,” he said.

“So it is the same, they need to be vaccinated before they can come to work.

“We can understand if there are health concerns, allergies or they are pregnant,” he said.

“But if they purposely do not want it, it is unfair.

“Even though it is a human right, we also have rights to be protected,” he added.
